11th-Nov-2009 07:19 pm - Fun conversation with a student:
ME: As long as you can analyze literature and do some sort of writing, creative or analytical, an English major is pretty easy.

HIM: Creative writing is gay.

ME: Hey, just because I like to write fiction doesn't mean I like women.

HIM: Yes, it does.

ME: That's not a definition of "fiction writer" I've found in any dictionary.

HIM: Get a new dictionary, lesbian.

ME: *spasms of laughter*

OK, enough youtube videos and one liners. It's past time for a real update! Facebook's made me lazy. It's quick and easy to shoot off a status update, but they're so shallow. So where am I and what have I been doing?

On the Mustang, I've made boat loads of progress since the last time I talked about it on here. I'll do a proper progress report again soon. In the mean time, here's the quick and dirty version. I finished painting the engine bay and the underside! I've got everything there put back together and ready to drop the engine in except I still need to attaching the front wheels to the new steering system. I'm missing the part I need to do it, but it should arrive in the mail on Monday. I have the dash and windshield pillars repainted. I have all the wiring run. All the switches and the instrument cluster are in place. All in all, she's really starting to look like a car again. If you're curious, I have a photo album of progress pictures here:

For anime, I finished up the second season of both Haruhi and Spice and Wolf. Haruhi was only a shadow of the first season's glory.... very sad! Hopefully the next season (if there is one) will manage to recapture the magic of the first season. Spice and Wolf, on the other hand, surpassed itself! It was truly an emotional roller coaster ride, especially the first story arc. I can't wait for the next season if they can keep that level of quality! Right now I'm watching the second season of Asura Cryin'. So far it's pretty grim compared to the first season. Of course, with the way the first season ended, I don't think there's anyway for it to not be grim for a bit. I'm also watching a new Clamp series called Kobato. It's incredibly cute!

Another DragonCon came and went. This year was amazing! I got to meet the Pooka Antitirbu in person for the first time. I got to see Patrick Stewart speak! The Cruxshadows and Voltaire were awesome as always. This year's mad scientist ball was bigger and madder than last year. I have a feeling it's going to become a new DragonCon tradition! Of course, there were lots and lots of fun costumes:

My costume was epic! Epic Costume! ) There was an incredibly fun panel about tool using dinosaurs as a mental exercise, which led to us talking about how the dinosaur martian separatists used their mass driver in a war against the oppressive dinosaur regime on earth, thus accidently causing the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Most recently, I had an absolute blast with [info]miranwe last weekend! We turned into panda and fox popsicles at the zoo and then made it through the haunted corn maze in (mostly) one piece! So much fun!
